Being a Judge

For the knowledge as well as experience that judges have of the law, these individuals stand sentry to how justice works.  It’s through people in this particular position that trial is conducted in a legal way and in a fair way.  The role of judges differ depending on the legal case and if you want to become a judge you have to pass certain qualifications like licensure and experience and pass the examination to qualify for a position in justice as judge.

With regard to licensure, you have to be authorized to practice law under laws of the State, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, District of Columbia and any other territorial court that has been established under the US Constitution.  Aside from being authorized, you also have to have a license to practice law.  Together with this, you have to be in an active status as well as be in good standing for practicing law.

Experience needed to be a judge is seven years working as a licensed attorney.  In this particular time span, you have to have worked in preparing for, reviewing and participating in trials and formal hearings that involve litigation or administrative law.  These can either be in the local, Federal or State level.  As for the examinations to become a judge, you have to pass a variety of exams.  These are all provided to evaluate how knowledgeable and skillful you are with regard to performing the work of a judge.  Here, competencies as well as your abilities will also be measured.

When you have all these qualifications to be a judge, it’s not set that you can take the position of judge immediately.  There is a condition of employment that you have to meet too and this covers being in an active status and being in good standing to practice law.
